Pokémon Pitch Black chase cards: the Mega ex

Pitch Black is the Mega Evolution series set released on 17 July 2026. It names 4 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex. Like every Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, each gives up three Prize cards when it is Knocked Out.

“Chase cards” are the ones collectors open packs hoping to find. In a Mega Evolution set those are the Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and, above all, their special illustration versions: the full-art prints that cost the most to find. We don’t publish what any single card sells for, because this site compares sealed product only and has no singles data. What we can show is what it costs to open packs of Pitch Black in the US today, below.

The cheapest Pitch Black booster box, Elite Trainer Box and booster bundle in stock in the US right now, each with its price per pack and how many stores have it.

The Pitch Black booster box costs from $179.95 in the US today, $5.00 a pack for its 36 packs, at 20 stores + TCGplayer. Every store’s price for it →

Secret rares are the cards numbered past the set’s printed total, such as 140/135. In the Mega Evolution series they include the special illustration rares, the full-art illustrations of a Pokémon or a Pokémon ex, and the gold hyper rares. The publisher’s release announcement for Pitch Black doesn’t give a count.

Which of the named Mega ex get a special illustration print, and how many hyper rares there are, the announcement doesn’t say, so we don’t either. When the set is out, the numbered list from the publisher answers it.

What that means for buying sealed: every pack of a set can hold any of its rare cards, whichever product it comes in. A booster box, an Elite Trainer Box and a bundle differ in how many packs you get and what each pack costs, not in what the packs can hold.

Booster box: A booster box (or booster display) is a sealed case of 36 booster packs from one set — the cheapest way to buy packs in bulk and the product most collectors keep sealed. Pitch Black’s holds 36 packs.

Elite Trainer Box: An Elite Trainer Box holds 8–9 booster packs plus sleeves, energy cards, dice, condition markers and a storage box, and usually a set-exclusive promo card. Pitch Black’s holds 9 packs.

Booster bundle: A booster bundle is six booster packs from one set in a single sleeve — a lower-cost step between loose packs and an ETB. Pitch Black’s holds 6 packs.

In the US today a pack costs $5.00 in the cheapest Pitch Black box and $7.22 in the cheapest Elite Trainer Box, and $5.00 in the cheapest bundle. The box is $2.22 a pack cheaper; the ETB’s extra cost per pack pays for its sleeves, dice, counters, card dividers and storage box.

The full comparison, set by set, is in booster box vs ETB: value per pack, and the price of every box today is in the cheapest booster box.

The set before Pitch Black is Chaos Rising, released 22 May 2026. Here are its cheapest box, ETB and bundle in the US today, for a like-for-like look at two sets of the same series. A comparison of two prices today, not a forecast.

DexCompare puts US stores and TCGplayer side by side: each one’s own listed price in USD, excluding shipping, ranked by price and stock. Stores pay nothing to be listed, and commissions never change the order.
